Triplex Pump Manifold and Connections: RFQ Interface Checks

Connection size is only one part of manifold compatibility. Define the mating interfaces, supported duty and installation responsibilities before comparing quotations.

Use controlled connection information

Provide the actual suction and discharge connection drawings, identifying type, size, sealing arrangement, orientation and the applicable project specification. Include the mating equipment references where available. Similar nominal dimensions do not prove interchangeability between different connection systems or revisions. Ask the supplier to mark its proposed interfaces clearly and resolve mismatches before manufacture rather than relying on installation adjustments to connect incompatible components.

Tie manifold selection to the operating duty

Submit simultaneous pressure-flow cases, liquid properties, temperature and expected running duration. Identify changes in service and any shared manifolds serving multiple pumps. Ask the responsible designer to review the combined system behavior, including pulsation and applicable mechanical loads. A static pressure label or a pump catalogue rating alone does not establish suitability for repeated cyclic service in the actual installed arrangement.

Check materials across all supplied items

Request the manifold and connection material schedule, including seals, valves, plugs and instruments inside the offered boundary. Confirm compatibility with the pumped and flushing liquids. Ask for applicable traceability and inspection evidence for the ordered components. Do not treat a high-strength body material as proof that every attached part is suitable, and distinguish the supplier proposed materials from those already approved in the project specification.

Review supports, access and external loads

Show the intended pipe routing, support arrangement and available service space. Ask for allowable loads at pump and manifold interfaces and assign responsibility for the installed piping review. Connected pipework should not impose unreviewed loads simply because it can be physically bolted into position. Confirm access for assembly, inspection and removal, along with the lifting and isolation arrangements required by the approved installation and maintenance procedures.

Agree fabrication, inspection and handover scope

Identify which vendor supplies and assembles each spool, manifold, connector and supporting item. Request the applicable drawings, inspection records and test boundaries before acceptance. Where site assembly remains, specify the required instructions and verification responsibilities. Preserve component identification and approved connection information in the delivered documents so later replacement orders do not depend on a general description such as high-pressure manifold or standard pump connection.

Make shared-system responsibility visible

For installations involving more than one pump or several equipment suppliers, use a battery-limit drawing and interface register to identify ownership of every connection and support. Record accepted deviations and any required site engineering. A manifold delivered by one vendor can still depend on review by the pump supplier and piping designer. Keep the accepted arrangement controlled during installation; changes in routing, support or connected equipment should be assessed before they are treated as equivalent to the originally reviewed proposal.

Suggested wording for the quotation request

Please quote the suction and discharge manifold scope for the selected triplex package against the attached connection drawings and liquid duty. Identify materials, seals, components, operating limits, allowed interface loads and support requirements. Show battery limits, mating connections, orientation and service access. State fabrication, assembly, inspection and test responsibilities, documentation and purchaser-supplied items. List connection differences and required design approvals before manufacture.

Evaluate the offered pump within its complete operating system: feed supply, pressure piping, prime mover, lubrication, controls and maintenance access. Record the liquid properties, simultaneous pressure and flow points, speed range and expected running hours. Keep the accepted limits and supporting drawings with the purchase order. A bare-pump rating does not establish the capability of the installed package or every possible fluid. Qualified personnel must follow the supplied instructions and approved site procedures for installation, testing and service.

For the wider equipment scope, consult the Oilfield Triplex Plunger Pump: Commissioning Guide. Use the RFQ checklist to collect the supporting documents before requesting a configuration-specific quotation.

Buyer questions

Does matching nominal connection size prove compatibility?

No. Connection type, sealing system, dimensions, rating basis and the actual mating components must be checked.

Who should review piping loads at the pump?

The responsible piping and package designers must coordinate with the pump supplier using the accepted interfaces and load limits.

Background and supplier contact

OSHA oil and gas extraction guidance offers related background, not certification of the equipment in a quotation. Applicability must be checked for the project and destination.
